The Rear Derailleur Hanger is a small and inconspicuous but very important component. This component protects the frame from damage if there should be a tougher shock on the rear derailleur. The shock is absorbed by the derailleur hanger and is not passed on to the frame. Instead of breaking or bending the frame or the derailleur hanger, a damaged rear derailler is quickly replaced and doesn´t cost much.
